Michigan Adult Foster Care CEU • Resident Rights • Due Process
Learn how due process protections, Recipient Rights complaints, grievances, appeals, and State Fair Hearing options help protect residents when decisions affect their care, services, dignity, and rights.
This course provides practical training for Michigan Adult Foster Care providers and direct care staff who need to recognize when a resident’s rights, services, or care decisions may involve due process protections.
Understand why notice, explanation, the opportunity to respond, and fair review matter when resident services are changed.
Learn how Recipient Rights complaints differ from general dissatisfaction, grievances, and appeals.
Review when a grievance may apply, when an appeal is needed, and how service reductions or denials trigger important protections.
Staff are not expected to be legal experts. They are expected to recognize when a resident’s rights may be in play, avoid blocking the resident’s ability to exercise those rights, and know who to bring concerns to within the agency.
Identify situations where a service change, rights concern, grievance, or appeal may need attention.
Learn how to support residents respectfully and route concerns through the appropriate process.
Strengthen AFC training records and staff understanding of rights-based service delivery.
